During the 1980s, one of the major retailers at that time, Sears, decided they wanted to expend themselves into the financial arena and delved into several ventures. The Discover Card was started by the Sears Financial Networks. Discover Card became very popular because of innovative marketing strategies. Despite success, other retailers shunned away from the Discover Card due to its affiliation with Sears, a competitor in the retail environment.
The late 1980s the brought about financial problems for the Sears Financial Network and so Sears, the retailer was forced to sell off its financial division including the sale of the Discover Card.
Today, the Discover Card is more widely accepted and is expanding into other countries as well. The Discover Card offers a wide variety of card offers including businesses and rewards credit cards as well.
